What to expect

By day Palma is a medieval wonderland, by night it's a radiant hive of activity. You'll be taken to Majorca's elegant capital for an evening away from your resort. Browse designer stores, dine in trendy Santa Catalina or stroll on the city walls under the Gothic cathedral. Xisco, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘La Llotja is a 600-year-old medieval exchange. It's free to visit and you can follow its twisting Gothic columns as they wind their way to the ceiling. You can also spot a ‘spy box', where spotters would look down on the crowd to see if anyone was stealing.'

Arriving Palma in the early evening, you'll have about five hours to spend in the capital. You can choose to have the evening to yourselves with five hours of free time to wander at your own pace and perhaps find a place to enjoy a meal. Alternatively, you could opt to join a guided tour of the historic city to get some local insight as you weave through the amospheric streets for around 90 minutes. If you decide to book the dinner option, you'll dine in the Cellar sa Premsa restaurant at 8pm.

Most shops are open late so you can visit the boutiques and high street stores around the tree-lined boulevard of Passeig d'es Born, or browse for souvenirs near the cathedral, which glows in after-dark floodlighting. Palma is a city which stays up late, and many cultural attractions such as La Llotja and Es Baluard Modern Art Museum stay open until 8 or 9pm, so you can sightsee even on an evening visit.

The guide was more interested in talking German than English and took us on a route march for 2 and a half hours with no time to look round the town for shopping and the meal was mediocre and did not Finnish till after 10pm when the shops where closed and we had to pay for a taxi to get us back to the coach. She argued with me over the largest cathedral which is Liverpool cathedral which is the 5th largest in the world. Overall the night was terrible and not worth the money.

Didn’t realise with the amount of pick ups along the way how long it would take. Personally found it hard to spend 4 hours there shops were more expensive then England thank God there was a hard rock cafe as we spent 2 hours in there. Thought the other dining places were quite expensive to eat. The cathedral was pretty but that’s all

A charming and well-run tour of Palma with an excellent, enthusiastic guide. Transport was smooth, and the tour was well-paced and informative. Sadly, the included meal was disappointing—rushed service, no menu, cold and bland food, and limited options. The restaurant felt unwelcoming to set-menu guests. While the tour itself was fantastic, we would have preferred to dine independently. Paying more for a better meal with more choice would greatly improve the experience.

We spent too much time collecting people from everywhere across the coast. On top of that, there was a sop at the winery, which nobody asked for.

The only is that we had too much time in Palma. 5 hrs was a bit too long. 4 would have been better

Nat Geo Day Tour : La vallée des Oranges
