Things to do in Villa Borghese
The third-largest park after Villa Doria Pamphili and Villa Ada, Villa Borghese is one of the most renowned green spaces of Rome, as well as one of the most popular parks among the locals.
The Villa houses the beautiful Borghese Gallery and Museum, where you can find a permanent exhibition of major works by Bernini and Caravaggio. Be sure not to miss great works such as "Apollo and Daphne" by Bernini, the sensual "Paolina Borghese" by Canova and "Sacred and Profane Love" by Titian. Among the masterpieces on display, you will note the "Portrait of Young Woman with Unicorn" by Raphael, the "Prize of Diana" by Domenichino, the "Madonna and Child" by Botticelli and "David with the Head of Goliath" by Caravaggio.
Villa Borghese also houses the Carlo Bilotti Museum (Orangery of Villa Borghese Museum), with works by De Chirico, Severini and Warhol, and the home and studio of the sculptor Pietro Canonica. These two civic museums offer free admission all year.
Villa Borghese offers many other gems, such as the popular "Bioparco" zoo, that attracts thousands of visitors every year, and the Silvano Toti Globe Theatre - the only Elizabethan theatre in Italy that offers a rich program of Shakespeare works every summer.
Enjoy the park with kids at the toy library "Casina Raffaello", and relive the history of cinema at the "Casa del Cinema". Relax on a boat ride on the lake, and, if you happen to be here in May, don't miss the horse show in the Piazza di Siena.
Visiting Information
The park can be visited every day of the year and is frequented by people of all ages, young, the elderly, and especially families.
Borghese Gallery, the centrepiece of the park and a symbol of 16th-century art and more, is visited by people from all over the world. Since the Gallery is home to some of the world's most beautiful works of art, it's no wonder tickets sell out fast! To best plan your visit, it is advised to book your tickets at least 30 days in advance. Audio guides and guided tours are available in English, Italian, French, Portuguese, Russian, German and Chinese.
Due to their size and bulk, it is prohibited to enter with backpacks, strollers, trolleys, umbrella, and all other items that are deemed dangerous - they must be kept in the cloak room during a visit.
Food and beverages are not allowed.
Pets are not allowed, with the exception of guide dogs.
Opening Hours
It is possible to visit from Tuesday to Sunday, the museum is closed on Mondays.
The opening hours are from 9:00am to 7:00pm and the last entrance is around 5:00pm
The Gallery is open all year round, with the exception of Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Accessibility
Given the fact the palace is a historical residence, the seventeenth-century layout of the rooms and floorplan makes it rather difficult for those with reduced mobility. To make up for this inconvenience, the museum staff has set up a special service for all visitors to facilitate the visit as much as possible and make it possible for anyone to admire the unique beauty of the palace.

Reviews Villa Borghese
“My favorite museum!!!!!!!!!!!”
“This tour was an unforgettable way to see one of Rome's best attractions. Save a few hours on your trip to visit - do not miss this tour!”
“Our guide Fredericka was excellent. So friendly, informative and kind. Extremely informative in her art history knowledge which was shared so warmly. Lots of little anecdotal pieces of information. The 2.5 hrs went really quickly. And she seemed to know all the staff at the Borghese gallery!”
“Goede gids met veel kennis en enthousiasme. Enige verbeterpunt: het was nogal een zoektocht om hem (voor aanvang) te vinden. Misschien handig om aan te geven dat hij buiten staat en hem een bordje met de naam van het bedrijf te geven.”
